Healthcare Hackathon 2020 at UKSH – MIKI coaches FirstAidKID to victory

The 4th Healthcare Hackathon Kiel took place on June 5 as a purely virtual competition of ideas at the UKSH. In various challenges, hackers, idea providers, professors, doctors, start-ups, and sponsors worked hand in hand to present their idea to Health Minister Jens Spahn at the Healthcare Innovation Hub (hih) in Berlin in January 2021.

Many of the teams also received expert support from IT coaches from the Medical Informatics Section. Kfeel Arshad, Anna-Lena Pohl, Jasper Hochmann, Heike Lehmann, Saman Ardalan, Luisa Mejia, Felix Rottmann, and Claas Strodthoff provided advice in the fields of cardiology, pharmacology, neurosurgery and vascular surgery.

The winner of the HH was the FirstAidKID team led by industrial design student Karlotta Sowinski. Together with pediatrician Denis Schewe, health economist Fabian-Simon Frielitz, and MIKI IT coaches Benjamin Kinast and Björn Schreiweis, FirstAidKID won over the audience and expert jury with their app for a child-friendly patient journey and took the top spot by a wide margin.

The team now has until the Healthcare Hackathon Berlin in January 2021 to implement the design and concept.
