eHealth is an interdisciplinary topic. The concept ‘eHealth’ (formerly: Health Telematics) comprises three domains: healthcare, telecommunication and informatics/computer science. Healthcare is the domain of application for eHealth. Telecommunication is providing methods and tools for the exchange of information independent of distance by using ICT means (e.g. networks and network protocolls) (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunications_network). Informatics as the field of information technology also provides methods and tools like programming languages, algorithms and information systems to eHealth (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informatics). eHealth can be defined as the networked application of tools and business processes in healthcare. Health telematics and telemedicine are used synonymously.
MI-KI is working on eHealth projects with focus on inter-connecting healthcare organizations including patients.
