MAGIC (Mainzelliste, Samply.Auth und der Generische Informed Consent Service als Open-Source-Werkzeug für Identitäts-, Einwilligungs- und Rechtemanagement in der medizinischen Verbundforschung)

Mainzelliste, Samply.Auth und der Generische Informed Consent Service als Open-Source-Werkzeug für Identitäts-, Einwilligungs- und Rechtemanagement in der medizinischen Verbundforschung

IT is a core part of cross-institutional medical informatics research. The technology introduces new ways of cooperation, yet it does bring new kinds of risk factors as well. Research associations are facing increasingly strong requirements regarding data privacy and data security, yet those requirements are repetitive in many cases (e.g. research associations may often need a central ID management, authentication services and consent management).

In order to support researchers regarding e.g. IT infrastrure and to guarantee data privacy complicance, the TMF e.V. introduced generic data privacy concepts. In order to put those concepts into practice, there is yet no suitable, reusable and interoperable IT components for so called “connecting services”, which would interconnect the “content modules” of the TMF data privacy concepts (e.g. clinical module, biobank module, etc.). The interconnection of those modules would allow to interchange the patient data contained in those modules in a data privacy and data security compliant manner.

The aim of the MAGIC project is the development, evaluation and provision / dissemination of free software which allows to set up data privacy compliant IT infrastructures through which the TMF data privacy guideline’s content modules can be interconnected. For that purpose, certain existing tools are chosen to cover ID management, consent management and rights management (authentication only). Those tools are further developed and their functionalites are further completed, documented and evaluated regarding functional requirements. Those tools will then be made available to the scientific community for sustainability of the project’s results.
