The scientific use of patient data is essential for answering many medical and scientific questions and requires the establishment of data integration centers (DIZ) that collect data from healthcare systems, consolidate it, and prepare it for medical research. These centers play a crucial role as a link between medical research and healthcare.
The Medical Data Integration Center (MeDIC) at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) is the focus of these requirements. The main goal of this project is to consolidate MeDIC within UKSH and the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII). The focus is on the integration and provision of data for research. The UKSH MeDIC, based on the pillars of organization, consulting, and IT services, is responsible for organizing data integration and provision as the core of the UKSH. The project aims to further promote MeDIC and establish processes for the use of research data and biomaterial as standard practice at the UKSH and its medical faculties (Kiel and Lübeck). In addition to providing consulting services in FAIR data management, electronic data capture, and IT services, another goal is to combine existing IT systems for data management, study documentation, biobanking, bioinformatics, and imaging in MeDIC’s clinical data warehouse. The consolidation and expansion phase also includes strengthening MeDIC’s IT systems, interfaces, and IT services to ensure the availability, consistency, integrity, and security of data and services.
